Sundance Spas Opens New Manufacturing Facility
|
Sundance Spas Inc., Corona, Calif., opens a new 350,000-square-foot
manufacturing facility in Chino, Calif. It will serve as the manufacturing
plant and distribution center for all Sundance Spas and Jacuzzi Premium
Spas products. The company has invested more than $13 million in the
building and equipment and will be able to manufacture more than 300 spas
per day with two production lines. This equates to more than 75,000 spas
produced annually.
The main two-story office structure is finished off with nearly 23,000
square feet of office space and showroom. There is approximately 3,000
additional square feet along the production line for manufacturing
supervision.
The new distribution area has 40 dock doors and enough space to store
2,000 spas. The entire production line is three football fields long and
is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery.
Some of the facility's new features include: an automated vacuum
forming machine for increased capacity and continuously moving process;
glassing operation spray booths to capture 100 percent of hazardous air
pollutions; regenerative thermal oxidizer to destroy 99 percent of all
hazardous air pollutants; contained resin mixing room with hazardous vapor
recovery; spa trim saws; production lines with continuous moving conveyor
systems to improve the workflow and improved line balancing of labor;
50,000 square feet per minute dust collection system to service both the
woodshop mill and the drilling line conveyors to drastically reduce dust
throughout the shop; enclosed pump and equipment assembly to reduce
airborne dust and debris; enclosed electronics assembly area for clean air
control; continuous moving functional water test station to reduce
handling and improve quality; dust collection system that moves 50,000
cubic feet of air per minute.

Rumors
Continue to Fly over Sundance Purchase
|
On May 16, 1999, Jonathan
Clark, President of Sundance Spas made the following statement in a letter to the Sundance
Dealer network:
|
"A recent trade magazine article misled readers by
implying Sundance was purchased by Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath. Competing manufacturers
have used this article in their counter-marketing efforts. They have stated we
(Sundance Spas) are part of Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath Corporation and that our product
will be sold to their dealers and through mass merchandisers. This, of course, is
not true. Almost a year ago, Jacuzzi, Inc., paid over 31 million dollars for the
purchase of Sundance. To clarify, Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath is one of over a dozen
sister companies owned by Jacuzzi, Inc. Sundance is a stand-alone company in the
Jacuzzi, Inc., conglomerate. Our (Sundance's) involvement with Jacuzzi Whirlpool
Bath is limited to buying synergies ( acrylics, motors, plumbing), traffic synergies
(warehouse distribution) and legal resources. This cost savings contributed to the
fact that 1999 saw only a minor price increase. In respect to distribution and our
relationships, I have absolutely no plans to interrupt the proven success of the dedicated
specialty retailer of the Sundance product."
